Chiswick Book Festival this week launches a new Young People’s Poetry competition. The Competition is free and open to young people aged between 8-13 years on the closing date 31st August 2011, living in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. (Please note: the closing date for school entries is 31st July 2011 - see below).
The Competition Prize Giving will take place during this year's Festival, which runs from Friday September 16th to Sunday 18th. All Prize Winners, their parents and their teacher (if involved) will be invited to attend the event. We shall be publishing the names of the judges and the writer who will present the prizes in the near future.
The aim is to encourage participation and get children writing poems. Local schools are invited to send in pupils' work and individuals can also enter by downloading the application form below.
Young people are invited to set their imaginations free and write a poem at home, or at school, about whatever appeals to them.
Those who are inspired by theme can write about ‘Summer Time’, using their senses to share their feelings for the months of June, July and August. These may be wonderful summery memories or painful memories. They may wish to conjure up summer sounds, scents, tastes or even objects that have a special touch of summer. They may write about hot dry summer days or wet grey summer days. Whatever inspires them to write.
